As an experiment in filmmaking this film is 60% scripted and 40% improv to allow our talented improv actors lead by Jim Kelly (FM96, Shut the Front Door Improv) to add realism and an air of fun comedy to the terrifying story. The entire story is structured from beginning to end with a solid storyline but with freedom to move with dialogue. This supernatural horror movie is a fully co-operative project with everyone on the cast and crew investing their time and talents to this film for a small fraction of standard day rates on a micro budget of $40,000.00. 80% of the film will employ many in camera, practical makeup and visual effects techniques to expedite the post process for a much quicker post process.

We are anticipating to begin and complete the twelve days of principal photography in late August 2019 and moving directly into post production for a completion of the film no later than December 2019 to begin a festival run in early 2020 and generate buzz. During this time we will seek international distribution through our network of industry contacts developed over the years.

Matchbox Pictures – through our experience and production model created at its inception – will bring ‘Blackburn’ to life using the tricks, tools and unwavering dedication we, and our team, have acquired on our previous three films. Distributed in over 62 countries around the world, the combined production cost for all three films was less than $350,000.00 (CDN).

We will be capable of making this film on a modest budget, that would normally cost over $200,000.00, because our key crew and cast chooses to participate in the film’s success rather than take a big paycheck and move on.
